Philip W. Weiss, 80, died peacefully March 1, 2025 at Wesley Village. He was predeceased by his wife Margene and sisters, Valerie and Charlotte. He is survived by his nephew Glen Fritz of Arizona; niece, Stephanie Walters, Houston, Texas; brother-in-law John Edwards, Clovis, California; and devoted caregiver Tina White.
Phil graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and earned a Master's degree from the University of Kansas. But he was a lifelong learner and in retirement eagerly participated in LIFE classes (Learning Is ForEver) through WIU Continuing Education.
Phil and Margene taught English at WIU and he retired as Advisor in the Communication Department.
He was a serious film fan, taught film classes, and managed Cinema I and II for a number of years.
International travel was important to Phil and Margene and they traveled widely. France, Egypt and especially Italy were favorite trips. He wanted his ashes spread on the Arno River in Florence, a city
